FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Straight answers to what senior leaders and sponsoring organisations most often ask. If your question isn’t here, get in touch.

What is executive coaching, and how is it different from consulting?

Executive coaching is a confidential, structured partnership that helps a senior leader think more clearly, decide more effectively, and lead more capably.

A consultant is typically hired to analyse a problem and deliver recommendations — or to do the work for you. A coach develops your own judgement and behaviour so you can meet current and future challenges yourself. The work is practical and tied to live business situations, but the capability that grows is yours.

What is the difference between coaching, mentoring, and therapy?

Coaching draws out your own thinking and is largely non-directive. Mentoring adds candid, experience-based guidance from someone who has held similar responsibility — while you retain ownership of every decision. Therapy is clinical treatment addressing mental-health and psychological needs, delivered by licensed professionals.

Coaching and mentoring are developmental, not clinical. Where clinical support is the right path, I will say so and help you find appropriate help.

Is coaching confidential?

Yes — strictly. Confidentiality is what makes the work honest and therefore effective. In privately funded coaching, what is discussed stays between us.

In corporate or sponsor-funded engagements, the content of sessions remains confidential to you; the sponsor receives only progress against objectives agreed at the outset, reported so it never discloses the substance of conversations. These boundaries are contracted in writing before coaching begins. See the confidentiality statement for detail.

Who do you work with?

Senior and high-potential leaders carrying meaningful responsibility — CEOs, managing directors, general managers, country heads, business-unit leaders, functional directors, senior managers preparing for larger roles, entrepreneurs and business owners, and executives in transition — along with the HR, L&D, talent teams, and boards who sponsor them. More on the Who I Work With page.

Do you coach in person or virtually?

Both. Engagements are delivered in person and virtually across Malaysia, Singapore, and the wider Asia-Pacific, with virtual coaching also available to international clients. The format is chosen to suit senior schedules and the nature of the work.

What languages do you coach in?

Coaching is available in English, Bahasa Malaysia, and Mandarin.

How long is an engagement, and how often are sessions?

It depends on the goal. A focused challenge might suit around six sessions across roughly three months; sustained development typically runs to twelve sessions across six to nine months; and a longer-term partnership can run for twelve months.

Sessions are usually every two to four weeks, leaving time to apply new behaviours in between. These structures are indicative and agreed with you — see Programmes.

How do you measure progress?

Success measures are defined at the start of the engagement, in business and behavioural terms, and reviewed throughout. Progress is evidenced by what changes in the work — decisions, behaviours, and results — not by how the sessions felt. Where relevant, stakeholder feedback is used to check that change is landing. This is built into the CLARITY Framework.

How much does coaching cost?

Fees are specific to the engagement — its scope, duration, and whether it is individual or organisational — and are discussed openly on enquiry. There is no obligation, and the discovery call itself is free.

How do we get started?

Begin with a confidential, no-obligation discovery call. We explore what you are navigating, what you want to achieve, and whether working together is the right fit. If it is, I will propose a structure; if it is not, I will say so.
